Gordon remembers as a young boy, touring the lake and its islands and visiting his friends only to return home in a boat that resembled an island of its own, as he struggled with a boat overflowing with the many trees he wanted to transplant on his family property. The trees are still there today and proudly tell the story of a little boy who had found a passion for our Canadian landscape.

five-day plein-air art retreat in algonquin park. September 16-20. 2028.

For generations, this extraordinary landscape has inspired Canadian artists. Tom Thomson found endless inspiration among Algonquin’s lakes, forests, changing skies, and rugged shorelines, as did members of the Group of Seven who followed. Through their paintings, they captured not only the beauty of the Canadian wilderness, but something of its spirit—its solitude, its strength, its changing light, and its unmistakable sense of place.

The retreat includes – 4 nights accommodation at the luxurious Pines Resort, 3 meals a day, 4 days of plein-air painting with Gordon Harrison on Cache Lake, Oxtongue River, Opeongo River and Ugh Creek, and all painting supplies.  You have to bring your portable easel, stool and brushes and have Eire own vehicle.  Once on site, we will carpool.

The Bridgewood cottage at the Arrowhon Pines Resort offers 12 bedrooms with private bathrooms and small deck with chairs – seven rooms with twin beds and five rooms with queen beds.  The cottage has a spacious central shared lounge with couches and chairs around a stone wood-burning fireplace, a library and a bar. There is a large open, shared deck with Algonquin chairs overlooking the lake.

4 800 $ per participant.  Two people per room.  Supplement of 1 500 $ for single occupancy.  The retreat fee is also payable monthly no interest over a 12 month period.

Limited to 22 participants.  15 spaces available.
