Every life is a landscape.  Every brushstroke, a memory.

Welcome to the Gordon Harrison Canadian Landscape Gallery

Nestled along historic Sussex Drive in the heart of Ottawa’s vibrant ByWard Market, the Gordon Harrison Canadian Landscape Gallery is a distinctive boutique fine art gallery dedicated to celebrating the extraordinary beauty and diversity of Canada’s natural landscapes.

Founded and owned by award-winning Canadian landscape artist Gordon Harrison and his partner, Phil Émond, Gallerist, the gallery offers an intimate and inspiring destination where art, nature and personal connections come together.

More than a traditional art gallery, it is a place of discovery, inspiration and artistic expression — where the colours, textures and emotions of the Canadian landscape are brought to life through original works of art.

At the heart of the gallery is an exclusive collection of original oil paintings by Gordon Harrison, whose expressive brushwork, vibrant palette and distinctive contemporary vision have established him as a recognized figure in Canadian landscape painting.

Complementing Harrison’s work is a carefully curated selection of sculptures by established Canadian guest artists. Each artist is personally selected for the originality, quality and emotional depth of their work, reflecting our commitment to artistic excellence and our appreciation for Canada’s remarkable creative talent.

Our philosophy is simple: to celebrate Canadian art, inspire meaningful connections and help collectors discover works that will enrich their lives for generations.

“Gordon Harrison is a man of many parts, all of which have combined to make him one of the most successful Canadian landscape painters working today.”

Discover Canada Through Art

Canada is a country of extraordinary natural beauty — from the quiet serenity of northern lakes and the rich colours of autumn forests to the rugged shorelines, expansive skies and dramatic wilderness that define our national landscape.

Through Gordon Harrison’s artistic vision, these familiar places become extraordinary expressions of colour, movement, light and emotion.

Inspired by his travels across Canada, Harrison captures more than the physical beauty of a landscape. His paintings evoke the atmosphere of a place, the passage of a season and the personal memories that connect us to nature.

Every painting tells a story. Every brushstroke reflects an experience. Every landscape invites the viewer to rediscover the beauty of Canada through the eyes of an artist.

The gallery extends this celebration of Canadian identity through its representation of other accomplished Canadian artists. We believe that collecting original Canadian art is not simply about acquiring a beautiful object — it is about embracing our cultural heritage, supporting artistic expression and creating a lasting connection to the places we love.

“Canadian landscapes inspire Gordon Harrison’s work and his life. Gordon Harrison is in a happy place following his heart, awakening his senses in a landscape playground. He has developed into one of Canada’s foremost landscape painters.”

The Artist Behind the Gallery

Born in Montréal in 1953, Gordon Harrison discovered his love of art and nature among the forests, lakes and mountains of Québec’s Laurentian region.

These childhood landscapes awakened an artistic passion that would ultimately shape his life’s journey.

Today, Harrison is celebrated for his distinctive interpretation of the Canadian landscape, combining bold, expressive brushwork with a remarkable sensitivity to colour, atmosphere and light.

His paintings exist in a captivating space between representation and abstraction, inviting viewers to experience not only what a landscape looks like, but how it feels.

Harrison is a member of the Society of Canadian Artists and l’Académie Internationale des Beaux-Arts du Québec. His artistic achievements include receiving First Prize at the National Painting Competition in Baie-Saint-Paul, Charlevoix, Québec.

He continues to paint at his gallery in Ottawa’s ByWard Market and at his studio in the Laurentians, drawing inspiration from the changing seasons and the natural landscapes that have surrounded him throughout his life.

An Artistic Journey Beyond the Gallery

Private Art Viewings at the Gallery and on Zoom and FaceTime

We welcome collectors to enjoy private gallery appointments, as well as personalized virtual viewings through Zoom or FaceTime. These experiences provide an opportunity to explore available collections, learn about individual works and receive guidance from the comfort of your home or office.

Art and Interior Design Program

Our gallery collaborates with interior designers, architects and design professionals to thoughtfully integrate original Canadian landscape paintings and sculptures into residential and commercial environments.

We understand the transformative power of art within a space. A carefully selected painting can bring warmth, character, sophistication and a sense of place to an interior, becoming a defining element of its design.

Through our Designers Program, we work closely with professionals and their clients to identify artworks that complement architectural features, colour palettes and the overall vision of a project.

Art, Community and the Next Generation

We believe that the true legacy of an artist extends far beyond the paintings they create.

Art has the power to inspire curiosity, encourage creativity, awaken emotions and influence the way future generations see the world.

For Gordon Harrison, sharing his passion for painting and the Canadian landscape with young and emerging artists is an especially meaningful part of his artistic journey.

Through mentorship, encouragement and personal interaction, Gordon enjoys helping young people discover their creative potential and develop the confidence to pursue their artistic interests.

This commitment to community and artistic education inspired the gallery to establish two initiatives: the Art Inspiration Journey and the Apprentices Program.

These programs reflect our belief that artistic expression should be encouraged, nurtured and shared across generations.

By introducing children and adults to the creative process, we hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for Canadian art, foster emerging talent and contribute to a lasting cultural legacy.

For us, supporting the arts is not simply a professional responsibility — it is a personal commitment to the communities in which we live and work.

Our Gallery’s Heritage

The Gordon Harrison Canadian Landscape Gallery has enjoyed a meaningful journey shaped by artistic passion, community support and a shared appreciation for Canadian culture.

In 2007, we were deeply honoured to have Dr. Bruce Firestone, former member of the Founding Board of Directors of the Firestone Collection of Canadian Art, inaugurate our first gallery.

In 2010, as the gallery expanded its mandate and relocated to its Sussex Drive location, we were once again fortunate to celebrate this important milestone with distinguished friends and supporters of Canadian art.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Julie Jacobson, wife of the former United States Ambassador to Canada and an enthusiastic supporter of Canadian art, and Brian Barrett, Chair of the Arts, Heritage and Culture Advisory Committee to the City of Ottawa, for their involvement and encouragement.

These memorable occasions remain important chapters in our gallery’s history, reflecting the relationships and community spirit that have helped shape our journey.

Art Is a Collection of Memories

We believe that art is much more than something beautiful to admire.

Art has the remarkable ability to transport us to a familiar place, recall a cherished memory, awaken a forgotten emotion or simply bring a moment of tranquility and joy into our everyday lives.

A painting may remind us of a childhood summer by the lake, a peaceful walk through an autumn forest, a special journey across Canada or a place that holds deep personal meaning.

Over time, an art collection becomes something profoundly individual — a reflection of the places we have been, the experiences we have treasured and the moments that have shaped our lives.

Art inspires. Art evokes memories. Art tells the story of a life.

When a painting moves you, when its colours and emotions speak to something within you, that connection is worth celebrating.

Because the most meaningful works of art are not simply collected.

They become part of our lives, our homes and our legacy.

We warmly invite you to visit the Gordon Harrison Canadian Landscape Gallery and discover the extraordinary beauty of Canada through art.

We look forward to welcoming you.
