miriam traher
Canadian Contemporary Abstract Artist
Miriam Traher is a Middlesex County-based artist who returned to her creative roots following a successful earlier career as the designer and manufacturer of a North American children’s clothing brand. Driven by a “no regrets” philosophy, and after spending time raising her children, she transitioned into a full-time painting practice, bringing a lifelong eye for design and a seasoned entrepreneurial spirit to the studio. Her journey is defined by a fearless commitment to exploration, which has led her to develop a signature style that radiates joy, vitality, and a sophisticated sense of composition.
Strongly influenced by the organic textures of the natural world and the expressive energy of modern abstraction, dynamic colour, tactile texture, and spontaneous mark-making became the pillars of Miriam’s artistic journey. She has developed a distinct signature by marrying traditional acrylics with mixed media, collage, and sgraffito, creating “visual stories” that reveal depth and history through every scratched, layered, and built-up surface.
Today, Miriam works out of her studio in Denfield, Ontario. Her large-scale canvases and intimate “Square Foot” works resonate with her unique signature style—vibrant energy, rich materiality, and a spirited, contemporary soul. Her work is easily recognizable for its expressive movement and is exhibited in galleries and held in private collections worldwide.
“Colour is my language; marks and shapes are my words. I speak with my hands and paint to say what I cannot put into words.”
Gordon and I are delighted to welcome Miriam to our gallery for her very first exhibit at the Gordon Harrison Canadian Landscape Gallery.

joy, no permission required
acrylic 48h 60w in. unframed 4 200 $ framed or 350 $ per month for 12 months plus hst
Not something we check or measure— not something we soften because of who’s standing beside us. Just… stepping in. Head first. Fully there. Poppies feel like that. Bright red, almost too much for their thin stems, moving with the wind instead of resisting it. No hesitation. No holding back. I still think about those fields in France— that year in Provence— how they stretched out, alive in every direction. A little wild. Completely present. Offering everything they are without question. And maybe that’s the whole thing. Joy isn’t something we wait to be given. It’s something we step into— just as it is— and let ourselves be right there with it.

right before more
acrylic 48h 60w in. unframed 4 200 $ framed or 350 $ per month for 12 months plus hst
Sometimes less is more… but that kind of restraint asks for something. Trust. A willingness to stop before it feels safe. There’s comfort in adding— another layer, another mark, just in case. Just to be sure. But this piece didn’t go there. It holds at that exact point where more would have been easier… and stopping meant saying clearly, this is enough. Nothing softened. Nothing edited. And it lets you feel that… just as it is.

The Simple Joy Of It
acrylic 50h 50w in. unframed 3 400 $ framed or 285 $ per month for 12 months plus hst
There’s usually a moment where we try to turn something simple into something more important than it needs to be. We look for meaning. We look for a reason. We wonder what we’re supposed to do with it. And sometimes… there isn’t one. Sometimes it’s just flowers on a table. Or colour that feels good. Or a moment that lands exactly as it is. This piece lives right there. It doesn’t try to prove anything. It doesn’t push past the moment just to feel finished. It lets the movement arrive, settle, and stay. Which, if we’re being honest, is not always how things go. But here… it does. And that’s the whole point.

more than enough and having fun
acrylic 25h 25w in. framed 950 $ framed plus hst
More Than Enough and Having Fun doesn’t believe in holding back. Colour piles in, overlaps, nudges its way forward, and settles exactly where it wants to be. The florals feel gathered rather than arranged, like they showed up together and decided this was the right spot. There’s energy here, but it’s relaxed — nothing frantic, nothing trying to prove itself. The painting is comfortable being full, bright, and unapologetically present.

She has quite a lot to say
acrylic 50h 38w in. framed 2 600 $ framed or 215 $ per month for 12 months plus hst
She Had Quite a Lot to Say. Some paintings don’t wait to be introduced. They join the party, take up the whole room, and start the story before you’ve even put down your keys. This is that kind of presence. It’s in the unapologetic pinks that refuse to whisper, swirling in flowers of deep plum and magenta. And that graffiti vase? With its playful, oversized dots and grid— it’s clearly in on the fun. It doesn't ask for permission to be loud. It just is. We don’t just look at it. We join the conversation. Because there is a specific joy in being this unscripted— in letting the dots dance, the lines talk, and the colors run until the air feels electric.

she wasn't asking anymore
acrylic 50h 38w in. framed 2 600 $ fried or 215 $ per month for 12 months plus hst
There was a moment where the checking stopped. Not dramatically. Not with a big declaration. Just… quietly. Up until then, there had been a bit of back and forth. A pause here. A small “maybe” there. The kind of thinking that feels useful, but mostly just slows things down. Because — and this is the slightly inconvenient part — she already knew. The answer wasn’t missing. It wasn’t hiding. It was just waiting for her to stop asking about it. And once that happened? The whole painting shifted. The vase holds steady — grounded, certain — while everything above it opens up. Bold pink gestures move freely now, looping, crossing, and building momentum without hesitation. Black lines step in and anchor it all, like they were always meant to. You can still feel the earlier layers underneath. The softer marks. The almost-decisions. But they don’t lead anymore. This piece lives in that exact moment — when instinct takes over, the extra conversation disappears, and everything finally lands where it was always going to.

where the movement lives
acrylic 38h 50w in. unframed 2 600 $ framed or 215 $ per month for 12 months plus hst
There’s a moment when everything opens up—no hesitation, no holding back, just you right in it. This painting lives there. In that full, arms-wide-open kind of aliveness where colour moves, marks converse, and nothing asks for permission. It doesn’t slow down or soften. It leans in. Built through instinct and momentum, it holds that feeling of saying yes to the moment as it’s happening—vibrant, bright, alive. This is where the moment lives… and it’s not waiting. Let's step into it.

where colour come to play
acrylic 38h 50w in. framed 2 600 $ framed or 215 $ per month for 12 months plus hst
For me, colour is the way that feeling speaks. I’m often thinking about the experience of land when I paint — wide fields, open sky, and that quiet moment when you suddenly feel very present in the world. In this painting the colour moves across the surface the way life moves through a landscape: rising, wandering, and settling again. It’s less about describing a place and more about remembering what it feels like to stand somewhere open and simply be there.

joy found me here
acrylic 50h 50w in. framed 3 400 $ framed or 285 $ per month for 12 months plus hst
This didn’t arrive quietly. It came in without warning — bright, open, impossible to ignore. You don’t ease into it. You’re suddenly in it. Colour feels louder. The moment feels fuller. Everything expands without asking. There’s nothing to figure out.No reason to chase it or hold onto it. It’s already here. A kind of joy that doesn’t wait to be invited — that takes up space, that moves through you before you can name it. And just as you notice it, you realize… you didn’t find it. Joy found you here

you walked in and everything changed
acrylic 37h 37w in. framed 1 900 $ framed or 315 $ per month for 6 months plus hst
Where colour moves before there’s time to think, where marks follow feeling instead of plan, and everything begins to open all at once. The structure holds — just enough —a vase grounding what would otherwise spill past the edges. But nothing here is contained. It’s all in motion. All responding. This isn’t about arranging something beautiful. It’s about that instant when something changes — and you feel it, fully, without hesitation. You walked in…and everything changed.

when joy takes the lead
Acrylic 37h 37w in. framed 1 900 $ framed or 315 $ per month for 6 months plus hst
When joy takes the lead, the only thing left to do is enjoy the ride. It’s the ultimate road trip of life. It’s a massive, exuberant momentum that refuses to be contained by any edges. We aren't worried about the destination. We’re too busy feeling the joy hit the pavement. Because there is a specific, exhilarating magic in letting go of the map— in the moments that decide to be big, unfiltered, and happy to lead the way. It’s about the unfiltered right now. That high-speed yellow momentum, the graphic vase saying I am here. It’s the knowing that when joy takes the lead, every turn is the right one.

it was a good time of the day
acrylic 37h 37w in. framed 1 900 $ framed or 315 $ per month for 6 months plus hst
Some days don’t need explaining. They just unfold… easily, lightly, a little brighter than expected. This painting lives in that kind of day. Where colour moves without overthinking, where marks land and are allowed to stay, and everything feels just a little more open, a little more possible. There’s no pushing here. No trying to get it right. Just a quiet yes to what’s happening — layer by layer, moment by moment. The structure is there, holding it all together, but the energy gets to move freely… and it does. It’s the kind of day you don’t question. You just stay in it a little longer.

flowers for an ordinary tuesday
acrylic 25h 25w in. framed 950 $ framed plus hst
Not every day needs to be filled to the brim with big things — high points and rushing from one moment to the next. Our days can be wonderfully ordinary. I start many of my mornings walking the same country road. The same one, for years. My feet have surely worn a quiet path from home to the next concession and back again. And yet every day the walk is different. Some mornings the sunrise stretches wide across the sky. Some mornings the mist hangs low over the fields. In winter the snow glistens, and in summer the heat shimmers above the land. The same road, the same walk — and yet always new. Just an ordinary day, with magic if we take the time to notice it, to see it, to hold it. Just an ordinary Tuesday, filled with flowers and joy.

sometimes too much is just enough
acrylic, collage and crayons 16h 16w in. framed 550 $ framed plus hst
Restraint wandered off, freedom took over, and things got interesting fast. What started as maybe I should stop quickly turned into why would I? This is the kind of moment where excess isn’t a problem—it’s the point. Where colour, energy, and instinct pile on until it feels less like overdoing it and more like the start of something fun. Loud in spirit, generous in mood, and unapologetically joyful. I thought about stopping. And then I didn’t.

you brought the colour with you
acrylic 13h 13w in. framed 450 $ framed plus hst
You Brought the Colour With You You walked into the room and brought all the colour with you. Your smile lit the way— joyful, happy, and making everything else suddenly bright. It’s a massive, exuberant celebration that refuses to be quiet. The reds and the purples erupt in a spectacular, joyful display, not worried about being subtle in any way. Because there is a specific, exhilarating magic in not needing a script. It lives in the ones who are big, unapologetic, and happy to be exactly who they are. It’s about the unfiltered right now. That high-speed, sun-drenched momentum. The kind of light that doesn't just show up—it leads. The joy of knowing that when you bring the colour, the moment is a little brighter for us all.

It felt like sunshine— the kind that hits your skin all at once, warm, bright, and impossible to ignore. Filling the room with light, sharing its joy. Happy to be here. sometimes happiness just walks in
acrylic 25h 25w in. framed 950 $ framed plus hst
Happiness Just Stopped By Happiness doesn’t always knock politely. Sometimes it just walks right in, kicks off its shoes, and makes itself comfortable. In this room, the stripes are cheeky and the blooms are just getting started— each one full of personality and joy. The pinks, violets, and blues aren’t just sitting; they’re dancing together in fun. We don't ask them to settle down. We let the joy take over the space. Because there is a specific, exuberant magic in the moments that refuse to be quiet. The ones that take up all the room, and decide to stay for as long as they want. It’s about that burst of sunshine in our day. A heart full of sunny-yellow momentum. A bouquet that forgot to follow the rules. The best kind of guest you never expected.

i am perfect just the way i am
acrylic, collage and crayons 25h 25w in. framed 950 $ framed plus hst
No edits. No filters. No second takes. This piece started as a day of pure fun— chatting and creating with a friend, spying the inside of an Amazon bag and being in the moment of joy. It was supposed to be light, but it ended as a piece that wouldn't take no for an answer. I thought it was too quiet. I thought it needed more punch, more "wow." And yet, its quiet voice became emphatic— a voice of authority that said, "It is time to take me seriously. I am perfect just the way I am." She is the quiet one, and she asks for an intimate relationship. She doesn't need to be loud to be powerful; she wants a quiet evening by the fire, a foot on the table, and the space to unwind. It’s about the unfiltered right now. The recycled kraft-paper vase being enough. The joy of finding fun in the discovery— and finding more than we could have ever imagined.

when yellow decided to happen

When Yellow Decided to Happen It started as a whim. A sudden, bright idea that grabbed a suitcase and decided to see where the day would go. This is the momentum of the arrival. It’s in the way the energy just lives, letting the colors pick the music and catch the breeze. A playful, exuberant burst of playful yellow. We don’t steer. We just hold on. Because there is a specific thrill in the unmapped— in flowers dancing on the table, having the time of their lives, until the day feels like a day full of sunshine. It’s about the joy of the right now. A zap of motion. A heart full of pure momentum. A moment that decided to happen.

It’s Never Too Early to Dream of Spring
acrylic 13h 13w in. framed 450 $ framed plus hst
There is a specific kind of magic in the waiting. The quiet moment before the world turns green again— when the snow finally gives way and the sun holds a different kind of brightness. It’s never too early to dream. It’s in the hope that builds as the first shoots start popping through the damp earth, unfolding in a rush of new growth and new beauty. A reminder that life is always building, always preparing to break through. We stop. We feel the warmth instead. Because there is a joy in the arrival— in the way the flowers finally blossom and the world decides to be bright again. It’s about that first, defiant "Hello" of the season. A burst of yellow. A striped vase of possibility. A moment where the cold is gone and spring comes alive.

We Stayed Longer Than Planned
acrylic 13h 13w in. framed 450 $ framed plus hst
The Best Plan We Never Made The plan was a quiet exit. A polite 10 o'clock wrap-up, coats in hand, and an early start for the morning. Then the room reeved up. Suddenly we’re into it, the kitchen dance party has started with no worries about getting home in "good time." The red is loud, the energy is wide awake, and the clock is officially irrelevant. We stay. We let the night take over. Because there is a specific, exuberant joy in the party that refuses to end— in the spontaneous momentum of a moment that decided to happen. It’s about the unfiltered right now. A soundtrack that refuses to be quiet. A heart full of kitchen-dance-party energy. The best kind of plan we never made.

love blooms
acrylic 13h 13w in. framed 450 $ framed plus hst
Love Blooms There is a pulse in the middle of it all. Not a plan. Not a mapped-out path. Just a sudden, uncurling presence. It’s the moment the rhythm changes— the conversation shifts, and the air feels a little more alive than it did a breath before. We step through so much, forgetting that the best things don’t ask for permission. They don’t wait for the right time or the perfect conditions. They just… arrive. Full. Uneven. Unpolished. This painting lives in that opening. Not in the calculated reach— but in the steady, arms-wide-open kind of presence that doesn’t need a reason to exist. It’s the shift from keeping to connecting. Grounded. Tender. Present. This is where the moment lives… and it’s already home.

the flowers after midnight
acrylic 13h 13w in. framed 450 $ framed plus hst
The day is a wrap. The house is still, the world is dreaming, and the clocks have finally ticked past twelve. But here? The next day has already started. While we sleep, they’re standing guard— looking exactly the same but feeling a whole lot different. A quiet, neon-edged hum in the dark that doesn't need a sun to tell it how to glow. We rest. They hold the fort. There is a specific kind of magic in being the only ones awake for the "tomorrow" that just began five minutes ago. A room full of unwritten plans, just waiting for the coffee to start brewing. It’s the best kind of head start. A zap of midnight patience. A heart full of tomorrow’s best ideas. A moment that already knows the magic is coming.

it's all about the fun
acrylic 13h 13w in. framed 450 $ framed plus hst
To me, fun, well fun, is what it is all about. Consider this our personal invitation for you to put down your "to-do" list for a moment and pick up your "to-enjoy" list instead. We created this space because we believe the most beautiful things in life aren't the ones that are flawless—they’re the ones born when we embrace spontaneity and a heavy dose of delight. We’ve found that when we trade the pressure of "perfection" for the freedom of being present, the whole world brightens up. Whether it’s through the art on these walls or the energy we share in this room, we’re trading the "should-dos" for the "want-to-dos." We aren’t looking for polished; we’re looking for those everyday glimmers and the electricity of a good time. Come join us and let’s let the joy take the lead for a while.
