Born in Belgium, Gréta discovered clay at the age of 11 and since that day, clay became her universe.

It was in the attic of her parents’ farmhouse in Belgium that Gréta started to explore the world of ceramics. Her family moved to Québec and shortly after Gréta visited the 1001 pots ceramic exhibit in Val-David and made a note that one day she would be part of this artistic community.

She enrolled in private ceramic courses to pursue her dream, working non-stop to produce and refine her art. In 2017, she designed and built her dream home-studio along the water in the artistic community of Morin-Heights in the Laurentians Québec. The natural world surrounding her studio provide her with a calm peaceful and creative environment where she continues to create her collections.

In her collection “White and Black”, the artist works with white porcelain delicately and with precision to capture the beauty of the light shining through the material. “When I work, I enter into dialogue with the material: clay. It resonates, full of emotions.

I love ceramics and pottery. I discovered Gréta’s work when I was visiting a design store in St-Sauveur in the Laurentians. I feel in love with her work and purchased three pieces. I had to discover who she was as I knew that one day I would show her work in our gallery so I went on a mission to find her and here she is in our gallery. So happy to have her beautiful work and to know this wonderful Canadian artist.

In my De Blanc et Noir collection, I work white porcelain with meticulous attention to capture the beauty of light through the material.

Each piece is born from a series of porcelain strips that I shape and delicately assemble around a shape called in the round. This process allows me to play with the natural transparency of porcelain, creating works that become translucent when exposed to light.

Once the work is in place, I hand paint each junction of the tabs in black. This intervention contrasts with the purity of white, accentuating the lines and curves, while highlighting the shapes that the light sculpts through the piece.

Porcelain, capricious throughout the manufacturing process, remains unpredictable, particularly during firing. When it comes out of the oven, it can be distorted, sometimes subtly, sometimes more markedly. It is at this precise moment that the matter becomes truly interesting, because control is relinquished, giving way to fire magic. This play between control and letting go is a dimension that fascinates me.

In the De Blanc et Noir collection, the Mouvement en Cercle bowl stands out as a set of large bowls that transcend the utilitarian function to become table sculptures, inviting contemplation and wonder.

What makes these pieces particularly fascinating is their unpredictable nature since during the firing process, the porcelain can deform, giving rise to shapes that fall short of perfect roundness. Each bowl thus tells a unique story, a dialogue between material and fire, a dance between art and the unexpected.

Forêt silencieuse collection

The set of hits from the De Blanc et Noir collection, entitled “Forêt Silencieuse” evoke nature in its raw form.

Each piece, delicately shaped and slightly distorted, evokes the texture of tree trunks, creating a deep connection between art and the natural world. It is an invitation to let yourself be transported into a universe where delicacy meets strength, revealing the poetry of nature where each imperfection becomes beauty.

noir et charbon collection

These sculptures are made of Charcoal Black, a black porcelain that reveals subtle shades of black depending on the light and thickness. Born without a defined plan, they were guided by the movement of my hands and the natural evolution of matter. Starting from bases of varying diameters, each piece was carried out slowly, taking shape at its own pace, in its malleability, followed the unpredictable path that I traced for it, creating a spontaneous and intuitive whole.
I choose not to give them a name, leaving everyone the freedom to project themselves into them and tame them in their own way.
