2-day art wellness retreat at the studio of gordon harrison in ottawa or in collingwood in 2026

The studio of award winning canadian landscape artist Gordon Harrison is first and foremost a tranquil refuge where he can put his passion onto canvas. Every now and then, of course, he shares his den with others, transforming it temporarily into a classroom where he shares his techniques and coaches people, whether they wish to learn how to paint or just need a few tips from a professional.

In the spring of 2013, the studio relocated to 67 Rideau Terrace, the original home in which Gordon Harrison hosted his very first vernissage. The studio is located in the community of New Edinburgh in Ottawa, and now occupies the entire ground floor of the former residence of Alison Harrison, the artist’s mother. The artist and his partner-gallerist reside on the upper two floors of the residence. Renovation of the structure has opened up wide spaces bathed in natural light, as well as functional areas for the storage and drying room for paintings. The new setting is tranquil and quiet—a perfect location for the artist to create his colourful landscapes, in his very own home. This urban studio is where Gordon Harrison continues to coach young people, adults and other artists in the art of landscape painting on canvas, and where special exhibits like the Annual Garden Exhibit and Fall Rhapsody Show are held annually.

on the first day, gordon harrison takes you from the very beginning of his process from a pencil sketch to indian ink to oil onto the canvas and will coach you throughout the day.  participants may reproduce a painting from his current collection with permission to do so – the painting will be stamped and may not be sold.  participants may also paint from a photograph they bring.  on the second day, participants repat the technique with their own photograph.

Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm.

900 $ includes coaching, painting supplies and lunch on both days.

cancellation.  the fee will not be refunded under any circumstances.  The participant may change the date of the retreat to another retreat date based on availability provided that the participant notifies the gallery in writing and another participate registers for the participant’s reserved space.

Gordon Harrison continues to find great inspiration in the Laurentians that have surrounded him since his childhood.

Gordon remembers as a young boy, touring the lake and its islands and visiting his friends only to return home in a boat that resembled an island of its own, as he struggled with a boat overflowing with the many trees he wanted to transplant on his family property. The trees are still there today and proudly tell the story of a little boy who had found a passion for our Canadian landscape.

His studio and 5-star rated bed and breakfast on Lac-des-Îles offers spectacular views of sunrises and sunsets and breathtaking landscapes showcasing our Canadian seasons year-round.
