The new Gordon Harrison Canadian Landscape Gallery on Sussex Drive was so packed Friday that even cellist Sonya Matoussova ran out of elbow room and had to relocate to a quieter corner to play her background music.

The party had pizzazz with its smarty dressed doorman and free champagne as well as its special guests, U.S. Ambassador David Jacobson and his wife, Julie. The couple has bought one of Harrison’s Outaouais landscape paintings. It was unveiled at the party. “We know just the place we’re going to put it — in the dining room,” Jacobson told Around Town.

On hand were Harrison and his partner and gallerist Phil Émond. Also spotted were high-end real estate agent Marilyn Wilson and her husband, Dr. Allan Wilson: lawyer Jacques Shore and his wife, Dr. Donna Shore (they dashed in to buy a Harrison painting): and the gallery-hopping Harvey Slack. He came straight from the nearby Terrence Robert Gallery where he checked out Philip Craig’s new exhibit (including his portraits of Slack’s partner, retired senator Laurier LaPierre).
