Martha Markowsky, born in Lachine, Quebec, is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists. She is well known for her vibrant urban Montreal landscapes as well as her depictions of the Ottawa region, impressionistic paintings of orchestral musical ensembles and interior bar scenes.

 

The artist has a strong community focus and received the Award of Excellence for her contribution to the arts from the municipality of Lachine. In 2009 she received an award for originality in oil painting from Le Cercle des Artistes, Peintres & Sculpteurs du Quebec (CAPSQ). In 2010, a 25 year retrospective exhibition of the artist’s work was held in Lachine.

She teaches classes in oils and acrylics and conducts workshops both in Canada and Europe. Martha also lectures to art and university groups. The artist has had more than 20 solo exhibitions and is the recipient of numerous awards and commissions from both public institutions and private collectors.

 

Martha is represented by major galleries across Canada and her works are in collections in Canada, the United States and Europe. Private and corporate collectors include former prime ministers Brian Mulroney and Jean Chretien as well as the Ottawa Senators Hockey Association, the Royal Ottawa Golf Club, TSN Toronto, the late Josef Karsh, Senator Norm Adkins, and many private collectors around the world.

 

Gordon and I first met Martha at the Toronto Art Expo and in Charlevoix.  We are very proud to have a Canadian artist with such unique talent represented in our gallery.
